Photo check
Will your photo work for a pet portrait?
Drop a photo in below and the check runs right here in your browser. It reads the resolution, lighting, and focus, then tells you in plain language whether it is a good one to work from. Nothing is uploaded, and you do not need an account.

How to take a photo that makes a great portrait
Use natural light
A window or open shade outdoors is ideal. Skip the flash, which flattens the face and throws glare into the eyes.
Get down to their level
Shoot at eye height, not from above. It reads as a portrait rather than a snapshot, and it keeps the face in proportion.
Fill the frame with the face
The closer and clearer the face, the more the artist has to work with. The eyes are the whole game, so let them lead.
Keep it in focus
A sharp photo beats a perfectly posed but soft one. Burst mode helps with a pet who will not sit still.
Go easy on filters
Heavy filters and beauty modes shift the colors and smooth away the fur detail we need to capture the likeness.
Photo questions, answered
What makes a good photo for a pet portrait?
Good light, sharp focus on the face, and your pet filling a good part of the frame. Natural light near a window beats flash, and the eyes matter most, so a shot where the eyes are clear gives the best result.
Can you work from an older or slightly soft photo?
Often, yes. We work from what you have, and the proof step is there to get it right. If a photo is very dark or very soft we may ask for another, but a beloved old photo is usually workable.
Do I need more than one photo?
One clear photo is enough. A second or third from a different angle helps with details like ear shape or markings, but it is not required.
Is my photo uploaded when I use this checker?
No. The check runs entirely in your browser, on your device. Your photo is never sent to us or anyone else. When you order, you upload photos separately on the confirmation page after checkout.
