Custom Bernedoodle Portrait Made From Your Photo

What makes Bernedoodle portraits special?

A Bernedoodle portrait is warm and substantial: a friendly face, dark kind eyes, soft drop ears, and a sturdy frame inherited from the Bernese side. The gentle, happy expression defines it.

The prize is the tricolor coat, black, white, and rust like a Bernese but in waves or curls, though many Bernedoodles are bi-color or solid. The curl softens the markings into texture. A recent photo matters because the coat and trim change the look considerably between grooms.

There is no breed standard to paint toward, and that is the useful thing to know before you order. A Bernedoodle is a Bernese Mountain Dog crossed with a Poodle, and neither the AKC nor the FCI recognizes the cross, so the coat lands anywhere between the Bernese's thick, faintly wavy, glossy double coat and the Poodle's harsh, dense curl depending on the generation. Two Bernedoodles from the same litter can need two different treatments. We paint the dog in your photo rather than a breed average, which is why the photo has to be recent.

The markings are where the curl fights you. On a Bernese the white is drawn in clean shapes, a blaze up the muzzle, a band across the chest, white on the feet and the tail tip, all against jet black with rust above the eyes and along the cheeks and legs. Put that pattern into a wavy or curly coat and every boundary goes soft. A good portrait keeps the shapes readable at a glance and lets the edges break up close, which is what the coat actually does.

Oil painting style suits the tricolor best, because the layered depth keeps the rust from flattening into brown against the black. Watercolor is the natural fit for a loosely curled coat, where soft edges are the honest answer rather than a compromise. For the photo, shoot at eye level in soft outdoor light, three-quarter rather than square on so the drop ears and the length of the muzzle both read, and leave the chest in frame; the white chest marking is the single feature most owners recognize their dog by.

A Bernedoodle who shares the house with another pet can share the canvas too: portraits of two or more pets are painted from separate photos.
