About Pet on Canvas

A small studio based in New York. Every portrait is custom made from your photo.

Who is behind Pet on Canvas?

Emely has been drawing animals since she was a kid, and it never faded into something more practical. What holds her attention specifically is the expression. A dog's face changes completely depending on the exact second the photo was taken. A cat manages to convey total indifference and total alertness at the same time. Getting both right on a digital canvas takes real observation, not just technical skill. That's what she finds interesting about it.

She launched Pet on Canvas in New York and brought in a small group of other artists whose work she had actually seen. Not a production line. Each portrait is matched to an artist, then reviewed against one question before anything goes to the customer: does this look like the specific animal in the photo, or a competent generic version of the breed? Those are not the same thing, and the difference is the whole job.

Emely has a goldendoodle who has sat for more test sketches than any paying client, and remains entirely unbothered by this arrangement.

"People want the portrait to look like their pet specifically, not a well-executed golden retriever. That's the whole job. Getting the ears right, the way they hold their head, the expression they have in the photo you love. The style can be watercolor or oil or pop art, but the likeness has to be there first."

What makes a Pet on Canvas portrait?

Every portrait is custom digital art made from your photo. We work in the style you choose, watercolor, oil, pencil, pop art, or surrealist, and tune the lighting, color, and detail to your specific pet rather than a generic version of the breed. You get a high-resolution file that prints cleanly at any size, which physical paint on canvas cannot reliably do.

The goal is simple: it should look like your pet, and you should love it before anything is finalized.

How does an order actually work?

You upload a photo, choose a style and format, and we paint it. Digital proof arrives in 2-3 business days. Revisions are included, as many as it takes, before you approve anything. Custom Canvases go to print only after approval. Orders are handled directly through the studio in New York, not routed through a marketplace.

If after revisions we can't make the portrait feel right, you get your money back before anything is printed. The guarantee is simple because the expectation is simple: the portrait should look like your pet.
