How pets from separate photos become one portrait
Group portraits of animals have always been assembled from separate studies. The painters who produced hunting scenes for Dutch patrons in the 1600s worked from separate studies of each dog, because the dogs never agreed to sit together. One clear photo per pet
Each pet needs its own good reference: face in focus, eyes visible, taken close enough that the features read. A group snapshot where one pet is blurry is weaker than two separate clear photos.
Match the eye level
Photos taken from roughly the same height, ideally at the pet's eye level, compose together naturally. One shot from above and one from the floor is the most common reason a group feels pasted together.
Similar light
Natural daylight near a window for every pet keeps skin, coat, and shadow consistent across the portrait. Mixed indoor and outdoor photos still work, but the artist has more to reconcile.

Can you paint pets from separate photos into one portrait?
